What to Expect at Your Doctor Visit

Doctor visits can feel stressful, but don't worry! This guide will walk you through what to expect from before your visit to after, so you can feel prepared and get the most out of your visit.

It might be helpful to bring...

  • Photo ID & Insurance Card, if you have one.
  • Names & numbers of other doctors you see.
  • Medications you take. (Bring them with you, or make a detailed list)
  • Bring any imaging, lab work, and notes to appointment if seen by an outside provider.
  • Bring any questions or concerns you want addressed during visit.

Before the Visit

  • Create a Patient Portal at fishertitus.org/patient-portal
  • Plan to arrive 20-30 minutes early. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, you might be asked to reschedule.
  • Check in with the front desk staff.
  • Fill out paperwork.
  • Make your copayment.
  • There are sometimes unavoidable delays. If you’ve waited longer than 15 minutes, let a staff member know.

During the Visit

  • New patient visits can take up to 40 minutes, while established or follow-up visits will take up to 20 minutes.
  • You will be asked questions about your personal, medical and family history.
  • Review all current medications.
  • The doctor may order lab work or tests.
  • An in-person or virtual scribe may be used to help complete charting during your visit.
  • Students may be present for your visit.

After the Visit

  • You will be asked to make a follow-up appointment.
  • Review your Patient Portal.
  • Complete any ordered lab work or tests.
  • Fill any prescriptions at your pharmacy.
  • You may receive a survey to complete. We value your feedback.
