Understanding Common COVID-19 Terms
Social Distancing
- Do not shake hands
- Avoid crowds
- Maintain 6 feet of distance
- Stay home if you are sick
Self Monitoring & Self-Quarantining
- Aims to keep people who were exposed or who may have been exposed away from others
- Regularly check temperature
- Watch for signs of respiratory illness
- Limit interactions
- Lasts 14 days (symptoms may appear sooner)
Isolation
- Triggered by a COVID-19 diagnosis
- Can happen whether you are sick at home or in the hospital
- More rigid infectious disease precautions, such as wearing masks, should be taken
Quarantine
- Individuals or groups are on lock-down
- Mandated by state or federal law
