Fisher-Titus has been awarded Newsweek’s America’s Best Maternity Hospitals again for 2024 – only one of 404 winners recognized nationally. This is the fifth year in a row the maternity department has received this recognition and is the only facility in the region to receive this designation.

“To get named in the same award as the major hospitals in Ohio, like the Cleveland Clinic or Ohio State, or major institutions around the country such Emory, Duke, or Johns Hopkins is an honor,” explains James D. Kasten, MD, FACOG, Chief of Obstetrics. “Very few hospitals our size or in rural areas get this award. To me, that's an affirmation of the quality care that we're able to deliver here in Norwalk.”

“This recognition demonstrates our ability to deliver maternity services that match or exceed those of the larger hospitals named on the list,” states Mona Nataprawira, DO, OB/GYN. “Receiving this award five years in a row shows that Fisher-Titus has been delivering quality care over a long period of time.”

High-quality maternity care, provided from pregnancy through birth and postpartum is key to the long-term health of newborns and women who give birth. Given that maternity care is a major component of healthcare, Newsweek and Statista, the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider have partnered for the third time to identify America’s Best Maternity Hospitals in 2024.

The ranking is based on three pillars:

  1. Nationwide Online Survey: Healthcare professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about maternity processes e.g., neonatal and perinatal doctors, nurses, and midwives were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals in the U.S.
  2. Patient Experience Survey: Survey of the overall patient experience in the hospital.
  3. Hospital Quality Metrics: Indicators relevant to maternity care were considered.

Statista publishes hundreds of worldwide industry rankings and company listings with high-profile media partners. This research and analysis service is based on the success of statista.com, the leading data and business intelligence portal that provides statistics, relevant business data, and various market and consumer studies and surveys.

“Being recognized with this award for the fifth consecutive year is a profound honor and a reflection of the exceptional prenatal, labor, delivery, and post-partum services our Birthing Center offers. We understand the significance of this in shaping the long-term health and wellbeing of both mothers and their babies,” expresses Brent Burkey, MD, President and CEO of Fisher-Titus. “Our commitment to delivering high-quality care and experiences for our mothers and babies born at Fisher-Titus is unwavering, as we believe in giving every life the strongest possible start.”

“Here at Fisher-Titus, we take immense pride in our outstanding Maternity Department. Our dedicated team consistently delivers exceptional care, from prenatal stages through to post-partum. We offer a range of services, including baby bootcamp, lactation support groups, and child/infant CPR, all designed to prepare families for their new arrivals,” states Alisha Nims, Manager of Obstetrics at Fisher-Titus “The talent and commitment of our nurses, physicians, and support staff truly set our Maternity Department apart.”

“Many of our nurses are not only tenured at Fisher-Titus, but in obstetrics as well,” states Karen La Salle, MD, FAAP, Chief of Pediatrics. “In a small community like we have in Huron County, people know if you are providing good, genuine care, and this award is a testament of that. We're lucky to have nurses that have been in the field this long.”

“The nursing staff and patients work together as a team to orchestrate a birth experience that fits the unique needs of each new family,” says Theresa Leber, Staff Nurse, Obstetrics. “Every patient and every experience are so different and that is what keeps the job interesting and exciting. After 36 years, I still am thrilled to be a part of this special moment with parents and their families.”
