Welcome New Members of the Community

While Dr. James Kasten has seen a number of twins over the course of his tenure, it never stops being exciting. Fisher-Titus Medical Center welcomed its first set of twins for 2023, to Jessica and Jeffery Lewis, both Norwalk natives. Dr. James Kasten and the award-winning Birthing Center staff delivered the two boys on Monday, January 30. The twin boys, Ryker and Maverick, weighed 5 pounds 13 ounces and 5 pounds 14 ounces, respectively.

“It varies, but about 3% of births in Norwalk are twins each year,” Dr. Kasten stated. “I’ve had as few as two sets of twins in a year. I’ve had as many as fifteen sets. It goes in waves. Many years ago, when I first started, we had five twin births in the same month. Triplets are even more uncommon. In the last 37 years, we’ve only had three sets of triplets born at Fisher-Titus.”

When asked about the delivery, Jessica praised the birthing team, stating they were all supportive throughout the entire process.

“They were all very helpful,” Jessica said. “Very encouraging, and eager to assist if I wasn’t feeling well. We had a couple of issues, but the team jumped right in and took care of me and told me I was going to be okay. The team was so gentle and nice. It was all very reassuring.”

The Birthing Center at Fisher-Titus is a space designed for maternity patients, infants and families, providing a safe, secure recovery environment. Their team of medical staff and partnered providers offer care and compassionate support to families while they welcome their new bundles of joy into the world. The Birthing Center prioritizes high-quality care from pregnancy, to birth, to postpartum, which is key to the long-term health of mothers and babies.

Fisher-Titus was named one of 350 winners of the Newsweek’s Best Maternity Hospitals for the past three years. This designation is nationally recognized, and Fisher-Titus is the only facility in the region to receive this honor. Being named Best Maternity Hospital by Newsweek is a testament to the exceptional maternity care the Birthing Center provides.
