Fisher-Titus Recognized by Leapfrog for Hospital Safety

Fisher-Titus Medical Center recently earned an “A” for the Fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade as well as a Straight A designation from Leapfrog for having “A” ratings since Fall 2019.

“This recognition is for our employees,” said Brent Burkey, MD, president and CEO of Fisher-Titus. “Each and every day they come to work, providing the highest quality of healthcare to our patients. We are Fisher-Titus strong because of their unwavering commitment and dedication to our community.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Fisher-Titus for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“Transparency is a useful guide for patients and families,” Burkey said. “It can help them make informed choices when selecting health care services. It’s encouraged that our community compare quality scores and measurements when seeking where to receive their health care.”
